What makes TerraNovaID different

Most ways to live differently start with what you do.
We start with who you are.

Begin with behaviour, and change needs constant upkeep.
Begin with identity, and it follows more on its own.

That is where TerraNovaID begins.
Everything on this page follows from it.

The short version

If you would rather watch than read.

What we chose

We chose to begin with identity,
not behaviour.

Most ways of helping people live differently start with behaviour. Recycle more. Fly less. Switch the energy supplier. They begin with what you do. TerraNovaID begins one layer underneath: with who you understand yourself to be, in relation to the world around you. That is your ecological identity.

Almost no one builds for it. Carbon apps count what you do. Personality tests hand you a type. Wellness apps quiet the noise. None of them ask the question underneath, the one TerraNovaID is built around: who are you, in relation to the world around you?

A whole, not a tool

Many reflection opportunities,
one connected whole.

TerraNovaID brings a whole set of reflection moments. The Portrait, and what stands around it, move as one: a way to first see your ecological identity, then let it grow, then live it. Each part opens onto the next.

We are an ecosystem. Each role, someone living their own life, a professional in their practice, an institution, a researcher, finds something here that strengthens them. And in being strengthened, strengthens the whole.

We work on meaning. On how you stand in the world, and whether that standing feels like yours.

For years, before any of this, I sat with people around the question of who they really are. The same shape kept appearing: someone who already cared, meeting more pressure instead of more help. This is my answer to that shape.

Six structural decisions

These are not missing features.
They are things deliberately built out.

Every product makes choices about what to include. TerraNovaID made choices about what to exclude, and they all follow from one principle: whatever undermines genuine identity development has no place in the architecture. Each one is a structural commitment, not a policy that might change.

  • 01 — No scoresRecognition disappears the moment a number arrives.

You know the moment. You finish something personal, a reflection, a questionnaire, an honest answer about how you feel. And then a number appears. 73%. B+. "Above average." Suddenly it is no longer about you. It is about the number. You start thinking about what would have gotten you higher. You stop being honest and start managing toward a result. TerraNovaID does not score ecological identity. A score would destroy the one thing the Portrait is designed to produce: honest recognition. You have probably been scored before, in places where it did not belong. That cost you something. We made sure it could not happen here.

  • 02 — No comparisonYour identity is not a leaderboard position.

You open an app. It shows you how you are doing compared to others. Maybe you are "in the top 20%". For a moment it feels good. Then you notice: your attention has shifted. You are no longer thinking about what matters to you. You are thinking about where you stand. Your ecological identity is yours. It is not better or worse than anyone else’s. There is no leaderboard, no community ranking, no "people like you". Your Portrait is seen by one person: you.

  • 03 — No gamificationBadges and streaks reward activity, not depth.

Badges. Streaks. Points. Progress bars. They are everywhere, and they work for a while. You check in every day. You complete the challenge. You maintain the streak. Then you miss a day. The streak breaks. And with it, the feeling that this was about something real. Gamification turns ecological engagement into a game to be won. TerraNovaID is not a game. There are no badges, no streaks, no points. There is only your own honest reflection.

  • 04 — No data salesYou are not the product.

Most free platforms have an invisible business model: you are the product. Your data is sold, shared, or used to target advertising. Their incentive is not your growth. It is your engagement, because engagement generates data, and data generates revenue. TerraNovaID's business model is built so your ecological identity can never become a commercial asset. What sustains it instead is contribution. People give not to keep a company running, but because contributing is part of how they grow, and how the next person gets to begin for free.

  • 05 — No tracking against youAnalytics to serve the work, never to exploit you.

TerraNovaID looks at how the site is used: which pages people read, where they lose the thread. That is how the work learns what helps, and finds the people it is for. What it learns serves that, and only that. It is never turned into a profile, never sold, never used to engineer a feed that keeps you scrolling. The line is simple: what we learn serves the work, it is never extracted from you.

  • 06 — No advertisingIdentity work needs the opposite of attention capture.

Advertising requires attention optimisation. The platform needs you to stay, scroll, click. Everything is designed to capture and hold your attention, because attention is what advertisers pay for. That logic is fundamentally incompatible with what TerraNovaID does. Ecological identity work requires quiet. Space. The freedom to close the app and sit with what you discovered. You cannot build that in an environment optimised for engagement.

The guarantee

A decision can be reversed.
A red line cannot.

The six choices you just read are not held as policy that the next person in charge could quietly change. Beneath them sit eight red lines: structural prohibitions written into TerraNovaID’s legal structure. No commercial opportunity, no partnership, no management decision can override them.

A governance structure keeps it that way. The eight red lines, and how each one is enforced, are set out in full on one page.

The clearest way to understand what is built here is to experience the instrument itself. The Portrait is where it starts.
