Clear terms.
No surprises.
These are the agreements you accept by using TerraNovaID. The website, the Ecological Portrait, your Portrait, and any other service offered through the platform. They are simpler than they look.
We have written them so you can actually read them. Each section opens in plain language. The precise legal wording sits one click below, for anyone who needs it.
TerraNovaID is operated from Belgium. Belgian law governs these terms.
What you get when you use the platform.
TerraNovaID is an ecological identity platform. It offers the Ecological Portrait, your Portrait, and additional tools and content depending on the membership tier you hold. It is not therapy. It is not a clinical instrument. It does not give medical or psychological advice.
The detail
The platform consists of: (a) the public website at terranovaid.com; (b) the Ecological Portrait, a structured reflective instrument; (c) the Portrait, a private identity record generated from and developed alongside Portrait engagement; (d) additional tools, content, and services made available depending on the membership tier you hold (Observe, Explore, or Inhabit). The features available within each tier are described on the relevant page of the website and may be updated as the platform develops, with prior notice for significant changes.
The platform is designed for personal reflection and self-understanding. It is not a medical device, a clinical assessment, a diagnostic tool, or a therapeutic intervention. Nothing on the platform is a substitute for advice from a qualified medical, psychological, or other professional. If you are in distress or have a clinical concern, please consult an appropriate professional.
The account is yours to keep secure.
You are responsible for keeping your login details safe. You must be at least 16 to create an account. If something feels wrong with your account, write to us at hello@terranovaid.com.
The detail
Eligibility. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account on TerraNovaID. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If you are between 16 and 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian is aware of your use of the platform. Age is self-declared. We do not verify age through identity documents at the point of registration.
Credentials. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity that takes place through your account, including activity by anyone you allow to access it.
Accuracy. You agree to provide accurate information when registering, and to keep that information up to date for as long as the account is active.
One account per person. Each account is associated with one individual. Sharing an account between multiple users is not permitted.
What you create on TerraNovaID belongs to you. Architecturally.
Your Portrait responses, your Portrait, and any reflections you write are yours. We do not own them. We do not use them for purposes other than running the service for you. You can export your data, and you can delete your account, at any time. Deletion is permanent.
The detail
Ownership. All content you generate on TerraNovaID, including your Portrait responses, your Portrait, your written reflections, and any other personal content you produce on the platform, remains your property. TerraNovaID does not claim ownership of, and acquires no intellectual property rights in, your personal content.
Limited licence to operate the service. You grant TerraNovaID a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, transmit, display, and process your personal content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This licence is strictly operational. It does not permit any other use, including use for training models, marketing, research, public display, or transfer to third parties. The licence terminates automatically when you delete your content or your account.
No use for training, advertising, or third-party purposes. Your personal content is never used to train AI models, build advertising profiles, generate research outputs, or for any commercial purpose other than operating the service you have asked for. This is enforced architecturally, not as a policy that could later be loosened.
Export. You may export your Portrait and other personal content at any time. Export is available as a readable document and as structured data, so the content remains useful outside the platform.
Deletion.You may delete your account and all associated personal content at any time. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. We do not retain hidden copies. We do not anonymise and keep your content for “research purposes”. The narrow exceptions are content that we are required by law to retain, and aggregated, fully anonymised statistics that cannot be linked back to you.
Three tiers. No hidden fees. No downgrade penalty.
TerraNovaID offers three membership tiers: Observe, Explore, and Inhabit. Observe gives you access to the core Ecological Portrait. Explore and Inhabit are Contributing tiers and require payment. You always see the price before you pay. If you stop a Contributing membership, your Portrait stays intact and you keep access to Observe.
The detail
Tiers. TerraNovaID offers three membership tiers: Observe, Explore, and Inhabit. Observe provides access to the core Ecological Portrait experience. Explore and Inhabit are Contributing tiers, providing additional features as described on the relevant page of the website.
Pricing. Pricing for Contributing tiers is published on the relevant page at the time you join. Prices are stated including any applicable VAT for consumer purchases within the EU.
Payment. Payment for Contributing tiers is processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We never store your full card number on our own servers.
Renewal and cancellation. Contributing memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You may cancel at any time, taking effect at the end of the current billing period.
Right of withdrawal (consumer law). Where applicable under Belgian and EU consumer protection law, you have the right to withdraw from a paid digital service contract within 14 days of subscribing, without giving a reason. By starting your Contributing membership and beginning to use the paid features, you may be asked to expressly consent to immediate access and acknowledge that this consent waives the 14-day withdrawal right for the parts of the service already delivered.
No downgrade penalty. If you cancel a Contributing membership or move from Inhabit to Explore or to Observe, you retain access to Observe and keep everything you created during your Contributing period. Your Portrait is never downgraded, locked, or deleted because of a membership change.
Refunds. We do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial billing periods after the withdrawal window has lapsed, except where required by law. If something has gone wrong with your billing, write to us at hello@terranovaid.com.
TerraNovaID is built for honest reflection. Treat it that way.
Do not use the platform to harass others, scrape its content, impersonate someone, or run a business on top of it without an agreement.
The detail
When using TerraNovaID, you agree not to:
- use the platform to harass, threaten, defame, mislead, or otherwise harm any person or group;
- attempt to access another user’s account, Portrait, or personal data, by any means;
- circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features, rate limits, or access controls of the platform;
- use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers, or similar) to extract content, data, or platform code, except where expressly permitted in writing or by a published API;
- impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or use the platform for any fraudulent purpose;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or methodology of the platform, except as expressly permitted by mandatory law;
- upload or transmit content that is unlawful, infringing, malicious, or designed to harm other users or the platform infrastructure;
- use the platform for commercial purposes (such as reselling access, embedding the Portrait into third-party products, or offering platform-derived services) without a written agreement with TerraNovaID.
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these rules. Where appropriate, we will say why and give you the chance to export your data first. In cases of serious abuse, suspension may be immediate. See Section 09 for the procedure.
Your content is yours. The platform itself is ours.
Your personal content (Portrait, Portrait, reflections) belongs to you. The platform itself, including its design, methodology, written content, and brand, belongs to TerraNovaID and is protected by intellectual property law. Do not copy or republish platform content without permission.
The detail
Platform IP.All rights, including copyright, database rights, design rights, trademark rights, and trade secret rights, in the TerraNovaID platform, including its software, methodology, written content (such as Journal articles), visual design, brand assets, and the trade names “TerraNovaID”, “Ecological Portrait”, and “Portrait” as used by the platform, are owned by TerraNovaID or its licensors.
What you may do. You may view, browse, and use the platform for the personal, non-commercial purposes for which it is provided. You may quote short excerpts of public TerraNovaID content for the purposes of comment, criticism, review, and academic citation, with attribution to TerraNovaID and a link to the source.
What you may not do. You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, sublicense, sell, mirror, or publicly display platform content beyond the limits described above without prior written permission. You may not use TerraNovaID trade names or brand assets in a way that suggests endorsement, affiliation, or partnership where none exists.
Your content licence (recap). Your personal content remains yours under Section 04. The licence you grant us for operating the service is strictly limited to that purpose.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions, feedback, or ideas about the platform, you grant us a non-exclusive right to use them to improve the service, without obligation to compensate or attribute, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
We work hard to keep the platform reliable. We are honest about what it cannot be.
TerraNovaID is provided as it is, with reasonable care. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damage. The platform is not a substitute for professional advice, especially in matters of health.
The detail
Service provision. We provide TerraNovaID with reasonable care and skill, in line with what is reasonable for a small, independent platform. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or fully secure operation, although we work to make the platform as reliable and secure as we reasonably can.
No clinical use. TerraNovaID is not a medical, psychological, or therapeutic service. Nothing on the platform constitutes medical, psychological, legal, financial, or other professional advice. If you are experiencing mental-health difficulties, distress, or any other clinical concern, please consult a qualified professional.
Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by Belgian law, TerraNovaID is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill. For direct damages caused by our breach of these terms, our total cumulative liability towards you is limited to the amount you have paid to TerraNovaID in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. For Observe (non-paying) users, that amount is zero.
What is not limited. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under Belgian or EU law. This includes, in particular, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, and for any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory consumer law.
Force majeure. We are not liable for failures or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as power outages, network disruptions, infrastructure failures of third-party providers, natural events, or acts of public authority.
How these terms can change. How accounts can end.
We may update these terms as the platform develops. Significant changes are sent to registered users by email before they take effect. You can close your account at any time. We may close accounts that breach these terms, and we will explain why and let you export your data first, except in serious cases.
The detail
Updates to these terms.We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features, new tiers, or changes in law. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Significant changes will be communicated to registered users by email at least 30 days before they take effect, except where a shorter notice period is required by law.
You ending the agreement. You may stop using TerraNovaID and close your account at any time, for any reason. Closing your account triggers deletion of your personal content as described in Section 04.
Us ending the agreement. We may suspend or close an account in cases of breach of these terms, repeated abuse, fraudulent activity, legal obligation, or where continued operation poses a serious risk to other users, third parties, or the platform itself. Where appropriate, we will inform you, explain why, and give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data and to remedy the breach where possible.
Effects of termination. When the agreement ends, your access to paid features stops. Sections of these terms that by their nature are intended to survive termination (such as ownership of platform IP, the limits on liability, and the governing law clause) continue to apply.
Belgian law. With your consumer rights intact.
These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you are a consumer, you keep all the protections that Belgian and EU consumer law give you, including the right to bring a case in the courts of the country where you live.
The detail
Governing law. These terms, and any non-contractual obligations arising in connection with them, are governed by Belgian law.
Jurisdiction. Disputes that cannot be resolved amicably are submitted to the courts of Belgium. If you are a consumer resident in another EU member state, this clause does not deprive you of the protection afforded to you by mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, including your right to bring a case before the courts of your country of residence under Article 18 of the Brussels I bis Regulation.
First, write to us. Most disputes are easier to resolve in conversation than in court. We will engage in good faith with any complaint submitted to hello@terranovaid.com before any escalation. If a national alternative dispute resolution body is available for your situation, you remain free to bring the matter there.
Severability. If any provision of these terms is held to be unenforceable by a competent court, that provision is to be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or, if that is not possible, removed. The remaining provisions continue in full force.
No waiver. A failure or delay by TerraNovaID in enforcing any provision of these terms is not a waiver of that provision or of any other provision.
Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any tier-specific terms presented at the moment of registration for that tier, constitute the entire agreement between you and TerraNovaID regarding your use of the platform.
Anything unclear? Write to us.
If something here does not make sense, or if you would like a clearer explanation of any clause, write to us. A real human reads what comes in.
