Your ecological values

Five ways people come to care.
And you probably hold more than one.

You put something back on the shelf. Or you took the slower way home because it ran along the river. Or you stood at the edge of a field a moment longer than you meant to. When a choice like that matters to you, even quietly, there is something underneath it.

That something is one of your ecological values: the part of who you are in the living world that holds what your care is really about. Coming to see your own ecological values more clearly is a quiet deepening of your ecological identity, and it does not look the same for everyone.

People come to the living world through different doors. Researchers who study this keep finding a handful of them, and most of us stand in more than one at once. None is higher than another, and none is the right one to have. Here they are in plain words.

What your care is about

Look at yourself,
and feel what reaches you.

Two ways to read what your care is about. The mirror is the experience: bring a source to your centre, let it go, let another in. The undercurrent is the same care surfacing under one ordinary moment.

Touch a source to bring it to your centre.

Five equal ways the living world reaches you. Bringing one close is what you are looking at now, not what you are.

The five inner values
Underneath one moment, five ways

An ordinary moment can carry several inner values at once. Pick a moment, then a reading, and see how it sounds from there.

You put something back on the shelf.

From an inner value

One moment, five ways. Touch each to hear it from there.

Doors, not boxes

Each is a different way your ecological values show, and a different way to recognise yourself.

You may have felt the same moment carry more than one. That is how this works. Which one is loudest now will not be the loudest always. Most people stand in two or three at once, and which one rings the clearest changes with the season of a life. There is no order to climb, and no door that means you care more.

Where to next

It gives your own values
a name to hold.

When you do a Portrait, it listens for which of these runs most clearly through your answers right now, and gives it a name: words for something you may have felt for a long time without quite being able to say it. The name is yours to keep, to question, or to outgrow.
